In November last year, I was on the receiving end of some car rage so bad that I reported it to the police.
While I was cycling along, a car overtook me and the driver honked his horn as he overtook me. Soon afterwards, he stopped at some traffic lights, so I pulled up alongside him and gently tapped on his window. If I'd done something wrong to make him honk his horn, I wanted to know what it was, so that I could try not to do it again. The driver obviously had a problem, because he opened his car door, almost knocking me off my bike. He then started pushing my bike around, shouting "third time, third time" and "next time, I'll rip your head off". He then tried to strangle me, but was pretty useless, and got hold of my chin instead! He then got back into his car when the lights turned green. The lady in the car next to us (there were two lanes of traffic) kindly took a picture of this happening, but, because neither of us got his registration number, I didn't bother taking it any further.
About a week later, on exactly the same stretch of road, a car overtook me in almost exactly the same place as previously, leaving a very small gap between the car and my bike. I caught up with the car in exactly the same position as last time, and gently tapped on the window to politely ask him to leave more space next time. The car door was opened, and the same man got out! He started pushing my bike around and said "I told you last time I'd rip your head off, I'll rip your head off next time". He then got back into his car when the lights turned to green. This time, a nice lady in the car behind me wrote down his registration number, so I reported him to the police. While chatting to the nice lady, I realised that the idiot car driver had actually punched me. Fortunately, he didn't do a very good job of it.
I've seen him a few times since, and he has behaved himself. The visit from the police has obviously achieved what it should achieve. Maybe I should have reported the lorry driver who threatened me with a large metal bar.
