Wrong Ticket Sold on 11th July (2010-07-18)

Copy of web form comment to South Eastern (2010/07/17 16:44)

On Sunday 11th July, I wanted to travel from Blackheath to Langley (Berks) via East Finchley tube station. I went to Blackheath station at about 10:50, to see a notice that said "back in 20 minutes, back at 11:30". I don't know what time the office was closed from, but from 10:50 to 11:30 is certainly longer than 20 minutes.

I went back later, after 11:30, and asked for a ticket. I suggested a 3-zone Travelcard and a Boundary Zone 3 to Langley (Berks) ticket. However, the man at the ticket office sold me a single from Blackheath to Langley (Berks) for £6.25 (including a Network Card discount). I wasn't convinced that it was valid for my journey, so asked him whether it would allow me to get out at East Finchley station, and he assured me that it would.

Unsurprisingly, when I arrived at East Finchley, the ticket barrier wouldn't accept my ticket, and the ticket inspector confirmed that the ticket isn't valid. Fortunately, he let me exit the station, and didn't take my ticket from me. I did, however, have to buy a single Oystercard ticket from East Finchley to Paddington (£2.40) when I continued my journey.

Not only did my journey cost me about two pounds more than it should have done, but the person selling tickets at Blackheath station on Sunday 11th July put me at risk of being accused of fare evasion.

As a minimum, I expect you to refund the entire cost of my ticket. If you would like me to send the ticket to you, please let me know. I would, of course, expect you to refund the postage cost too.
