iPhone 3GS versus Android (2010-07-18)

So, what made me decide to buy an HTC Desire instead of an iPhone? Well, in my opinion, the advantages that the HTC Desire has over the iPhone are:

• Doesn't need iTunes.
• Supports multi-tasking.
• Supports Flash.
• Uses an open-source OS.
• It's more powerful.
• Google Apps such as Google Goggles and Google SatNav are available for Android phones before the iPhone.
• Updates to the OS are available free of charge and over-the-air (this might be true of the iPhone, I'm not sure).
• Has a flash for the camera.
• Has a user-replaceable SD card.
• Has a user-replaceable battery.
• Uses a standard USB cable.

The advantage of the iPhone is that it has a larger selection of apps, and most apps are available for the iPhone before they're available for Android phones. I expect this will change over time as Android become more popular.

Update: The iPhone 4 now supports multi-tasking and has a flash for the camera. All the other limitations haven't been fixed, and the iPhone 4 has problems getting a decent signal if one holds the phone incorrectly.
