Saturday 23rd January
I had a really nice weekend with Fiona and Izzy. After breakfast and several cups of tea, we went to the local bike shop to get some inner tubes, a pump, and some puncture repair stickers to repair Izzy's buggy. The totty serving was very helpful, but, unfortunately, a bit young. After Fiona fixed Izzy's buggy, we went for a walk along the canal. We stopped off for lunch at The Boathouse Inn. The service, food, and beer were all good and I got to try two different local brews. We then continued our walk along the canal, and stopped for a pint at a pub just outside Bigley Bingley (sorry, I can't remember the name of the pub). The service wasn't quite as good, but I got to try another local brew. We then walked into Bigley Bingley, and had another pint (at The Ferrands Arms) before catching a train back to Shipley. After Izzy had gone to sleep, Fiona and I had the curry that was left over from yesterday evening, and I finished off the Stella 4 while we watched 40 Year Old Virgin.
Sunday 24th January
After tea and breakfast, we went out for another walk. As we did yesterday, we dropped off the recycling at the recycling centre. Izzy threw the cans in the bins. Unfortunately, I hadn't emptied one of the Stella 4 cans completely, and Izzy ended up with a few drops of lager on her head!
Instead of walking along the canal, we walked along the river, but Izzy felt hungry after a while and asked when we were going to the pub! We saw a church in the distance, so walked towards that, hoping that there would be a pub next to it, but it turned out to be a crematorium. We walked from there into Saltire, but found that the pub there wasn't open. We therefore went to the The Boathouse that we'd been to yesterday, but found it didn't open until midday. We therefore went to the pub that I'd noticed on Friday (sorry, I can't remember the name) and had lunch there (on its 2 for the price of 1 offer). We then walked to the station, and I caught the 14:08 to Leeds, hoping to catch the 14:40 to King's Cross.
There was a bloke on the train who was also waiving out of the window, and I asked whether we were waiving at the same people. He made me smile when he replied, "You weren't waiving at my mum were you?". He also said "it's OK, because I was waiving at your daughter", but it was the first comment that made me smile. I arrived at platform 5 and the train to King's Cross left from platform 6. Job done. I spent quite a bit of the journey sleeping (sorry to my fellow passengers if I snored), but also surfed t'internet using the on-board "free" wi-fi (the BBC thought I was Johnny Foreigner, so put Google Ads on its news pages), and updating my blog. A few people used their mobile phones on the train, but I couldn't be bothered to say anything.
[2010/01/24 17:16 - update] The train's running about 10 minutes late. I hope it doesn't get delayed any further.
