Curry in Barrow-in-Furness (2010-01-21)

Category: Diary. Posted: 2010-02-07 17:44:11 GMT.

Someone at the hotel told me it was a mile to where I was working, but I told him the wrong place and it was actually over 2 miles. Fortunately, I knew this, having walked past it last night. I didn't have that much relaxing time at the hotel, but found the 45 minute walk quite relaxing. There was a footpath for some of it, which I hadn't seen last night.

The course went OK, and I got a lift back to the hotel. After watching the 6 o'clock news, I walked back into town (another 80 minute walk) and tried the curry house opposite the one I'd been to last night. I didn't use the SatNav this time, thinking I'd find my own way. Just as I thought I might have to turn on the SatNav or ask for directions, I saw that I'd arrived at Dalton Street. Job done! I had a quick pint in the Wetherspoon pub because I knew it wouldn't have loud music, would have a wi-fi network (I could only access the hotel's wi-fi network when I was standing by the room door), and have a decent range of bitters. The wi-fi network was being temperamental, which made checking my work e-mail a bit difficult. Quite a few people had contacted me, so I'll probably end up going into work on Sunday.

I finished my pint and went into the curry house. The only other people in there were the two waiters and a group of 4 people. This probably wasn't a good sign (the other one was really busy last night). There was still no panneer cheese on the menu, so I had an onion bahjea like last night. The food was a bit better, but still not brilliant. The service was much better, but that might have something to do with not being very busy. It had started raining while I was in the Wetherspoon pub, so I asked the waiter to call me a taxi, because I didn't fancy walking 5½ miles in the dark and the rain.

I got back to the hotel at about 10PM and was surprised to find the bar completely empty. The barmaid was having a rest at one of the bar tables, so there was still someone to serve me beer. The hotel didn't have the best range of lagers and beers, so I had a Theakston like last night. I took half of my pint up to my hotel room when the battery on my PDA started running down, and watched BBCNews24 (after finding an excellent channel called BabeChannel!)
