The Last Six Days (2009-03-06)

Category: Diary. Posted: 2009-03-07 10:52:10 GMT.

Yet again, I've been too busy to update my blog every day, so this is what I've been up to for the last 6 days.

Sunday 1st March
I don't really know what I did today, but I didn't actually leave the house. FreecyclingBird2 came round for a quick cuppa though.

Monday 2nd March
Today was a really busy day at work, but I had to leave at 18:30 in order to catch the last post. Back at home, I caught up to date with my e-mail, sorted out Scary's stag do with Mark, and made a week's worth of smoothies.

Last weekend, I was looking at my father's "Who's Who" book from 1970, and saw a picture of a woman called Dorothy Black who looked just like Margaret Thatcher. I thought I'd find a picture of Dorothy Black on t'internet, and see how alike they actually are. It turns out that there's also a famous porn star called Dorothy Black, so you can imagine the shock I had when I used Google's Image Search to find pictures of Dorothy Black!

Tuesday 3rd March
It was another really busy day. Concerned that I might not be able to leave work in time to get the last post, I popped out to send the post during the day. I also took the opportunity to post my broken pedalites back to Evans Cycles by Recorded Delivery. I was knackered by the time I got home, so just settled down to watch Holby City and Mistresses.

With all the tidying I've done recently, I've ended up with almost nothing on my floors apart from furniture, making it much quicker to vacuum my carpets. I then decided that I ought to invest in a robotic vacuum cleaner. I had a quick look on t'internet - it's possible to get them for about £50, but a decent one seems to be about £250. It's a lot of money, but what a brilliant gadget!

New Home Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Robot Hoover Bagless (£45)
iVacuum Robot AutoCleaner Vacuum inc. Remote Control & Docking Station (£130 £96)
iRobot Roomba 560 Vacuum Cleaning Robot - £300

I think I'll wait until prices drop further when the recession bites more.

Wednesday 3rd March
Another busy day, but I had to leave at a reasonable time, because my brother was staying the night. He was already there when I got back home, and was surfing t'internet, having tapped into an unsecured wireless network. I made us tea, and then went to check my e-mail before we went for curry. I'd tried to give away an old Hoover hose on Freecycle a few months ago, and also tried again last weekend. Somebody eventually e-mailed me today asking for it for "one of my projects". I replied to his e-mail saying that I'd leave it in the recycling bin. I did this, and we then went to The India for a curry.

On the way to the curry house, we saw a JCB digging up the garden of where Gimmer used to live. My brother suggested that I call Gimmer, and tell him that the Rozzers were digging up his garden looking for evidence! Anyway, we had a really nice curry, and I told my brother about my idea of buying a robotic vacuum cleaner. He mentioned that he'd got our great uncle's Hoover in the car, and was taking it to the tip. I needed a new vacuum cleaner anyway, so said I'd have it. He said that it didn't have a hose, which worried me for a bit. What if the bloke had collected the hose that I'd had lying around for years, only to find that I need it minutes after he collected it! Back at home, we found out that the Hoover didn't have anywhere to connect a hose, so it wouldn't have been a problem if the bloke had collected it.

We then went to the Toby for a pint and to waste a few quid in the quiz machine. Back at my place, we had a quick game on my Wii. I wasn't too bad at tennis, but the combination of being tired, dehydrated and drunk affected my Wii Age - it reckoned I was 70. I probably only hit about 5% of the tennis balls, but was amazingly good at baseball. Still, at least I wasn't as old as Sarah!

Thursday 4th March
I wasn't as busy at work today as I had been earlier on in the week, so I managed to catch up with things. Bird was coming round to my place to cut my hair and finishing going through her things in the spare room. She was going to bring a take-away, but decided not to in the end, so I warmed up last night's curry before she arrived. She had to work later than expected, so I started playing with my Wii to keep myself entertained. I went to check out my Wii Fitness, but it wouldn't let me. I knew I was only allowed to check it out once a day, but it seems that it blocks me for 24 hours, rather than realising it's a new day. Anyway, I tried boxing, which I'm never really good at, but is good exercise.

When Bird arrived, I got my kit off, and sat down in the kitchen. The clippers didn't cut my hair at all, so I was worried that I might have to buy some new ones. We tried different sizes of clippers, and eventually found one that managed it. It was probably a combination of my hair being quite long and being sweaty from all my exercise. Anyway, Bird finished it off with a #2 clipper. While I had a shower, she went to have a look in the spare room, but found out that she'd finished looking through everything last time she came round. I'm losing the plot!

Anyway, we had a quick cuppa and chatted for a while before she went home. I was quite knackered, so didn't stay up that long after she left, but I did search for something on t'internet once I'd got into bed. I've got fed up with pairing up my socks once I've washed them, and decided that there must be some clips designed to keep pairs of socks together in the washing machine. I can't remember exactly what I typed into Bloke In Pub, but I found the Sockstar. I think I'll be buying some of these! Two others sock clips that I found later are Cyclops Sock Clip and Sock Clip. The Sock Clip site is worth a visit just for the video!

Friday 5th March
Work was easier today, but I was quite tired. On the way home, I started singing to myself, and realised that I was singing the words to Everton's "Here We Go" song. Why do I know all the words to this song that was released in the '70s? Why does my mind remember such useless information? I then carried on singing to myself, this time I sang "The Chicken Song" and "I've Never Met a Nice South African". I got back home at a reasonable time, and was pleased to find that, after my little rant yesterday, almost everybody had paid for Scary's Stag Do. I even had time for two cups of tea before heading back into Slough to meet Gimmer for beers.

We met in the Moon and Spoon, and had a bite to eat. I mentioned about knowing all the words to the Everton song, but Gimmer reckoned it was released in the '80s. We had a 50p bet, but no matter what I searched for on t'internet, I couldn't find out when it was released. We then went to the Rising Sun for a beer, but the live music was too loud, so, leaving the very sexy barmaid behind, we went to the Hershall Arms. This was quieter, and there were two sexy barmaids there. Unfortunately, there was no Stella, so I had to drink Kronenbourg (Gimmer had his usual Fosters). Not really liking Kronenbourg, I wasn't actually sure whether I was drinking Kronenbourg or Fosters! Maybe I should order a bitter next time we go in there. Still, at about 22:50 the landlord brought around complementary chips and sausages. Excellent, I'll be going in there with Sarah tomorrow.

Gimmer was up for another pint, but I was feeling tired, so we called it a night. Back at home, I made myself a cuppa, and continued trying to find out when the Everton song was released. I knew I had the answer on my bookshelf, but was convinced that the answer must be on t'internet somewhere. After a while, I had to admit defeat, so went downstairs, took Complete UK Hit Singles 1952 - 2006 off the shelf, and found the answer straight away. I then fell asleep on the sofa with the book open on page 283. I didn't sleep for long, and went to bed straight afterwards.
