I've been pretty slack at updating my blog recently. Normally I keep it up-to-date, but don't get around to uploading it. This week, I just haven't got around to writing it. So, what have I been up to?
Thursday 19th:
Sarah got two for the price of one vouchers from www.vouchercodes.co.uk for a meal at Fire and Stone. In another role-reversal, she had wine with her meal and I had tap water. I fancied a pint, but didn't manage to persuade Sarah to have her dessert in The Maple Leaf instead of Fire and Stone.
Friday 20th:
I cycled home after work, and then caught the train to my parents' house. I couldn't believe Langley station. I'm used to the credit card reader not working, but the whole ticket machine was missing today! My brother arrived at the same time that I did, so the dog wasn't sure which one of us to make more fuss over!
Saturday 21st:
We took took the dog for a walk in Greenwich (more about Greenwich Council's gritting mistakes in a separate rant), and my father and I then installed the electricity monitor that I'd bought my mother for Christmas. It was interesting turning different appliances off to see what difference they make. I didn't get home until early evening, and just took things easy watching a bit of TV.
Sunday 22nd:
I didn't do anything that exciting today, but I did spend a bit of time giving my bike a good clean. The back wheel looked a bit wobbly - maybe the bloke who knocked into me a few weeks ago (see Driver Not Looking) did more damage than I thought.
Monday 23rd:
Having given up getting rid of my sty, I made an appointment with the optician. I really wanted to go to see my doctor, but I knew it would be a pain getting an appointment. Since Zoe had told me that opticians can prescribe, I thought I'd try Specsavers. Unfortunately, opticians can't prescribe, so my visit was a waste of time.
I'd got some Tesco vouchers at the weekend, so, since my bike was already locked up in Slough, I popped in to buy some things. This credit crunch seemed pretty good - there were so many special offers. Unfortunately, I couldn't use my £2 off Finish Dishwasher Cleaner, because there was none left.
Rodney wanted to borrow my dive computer to take to America, so I met him for a few pints in Slough. I had assumed that we'd be going for a curry, but Rodney has already eaten, so I just ordered a burger in the Moon and Spoon.
Tuesday 24th:
I called up to make an appointment with the doctor today, and was amazed that I could see one today at 18:10. Unfortunately, the sty wasn't looking very bad today, but the doctor prescribed some lotion, and I went to get it from the chemist shop opposite the surgery. The pharmacist told me that exactly the same cream was available cheaper not on prescription, so I bought that. Why couldn't I have been recommended that when I went into two other chemist shops? I hope the new lotion does work, because I really don't want to have to go to hospital to get it taken out.
Wednesday 25th:
While I was cycling into work, some idiot pulled out of a side road without looking, and knocked me over. Unlike the twat a few weeks ago, this bloke was very polite and apologetic. I wasn't hurt, and the bike seemed OK, so I didn't bother taking his picture for Twat of the Day, or taking down his details. About 10 minutes later, I looked at my back wheel at noticed that it was wobbling quite a bit. If only I had taken down this bloke's details!
After work, I took my bike into Stows Cycles to buy a new wheel. It charges another tenner to fit it, so I decided to pay it, just in case I don't have the right sized spanners at home. Unfortunately, they wouldn't do it until tomorrow, so I had to walk home.
Thursday 26th:
I had to get up earlier than normal today because I had to walk into work. I collected my bike on the way back home, and it seemed OK. I was meeting Bird for a curry in Staines, so had three options. I could walk to Datchet and catch the train, I could cycle to Datchet and get the train, or I could cycle to Staines. I didn't have time to walk to Datchet, so just cycled all the way to Staines.
We had a really nice curry at The Ancient Raj, including one of Bird's favourite curries ever. Unfortunately, I'd had a cold all week, so couldn't taste the curry as well as I should have done. When I got back home, I realised that my pedalites weren't working. Oh dear, this is going to be an expensive week. I'll make sure I get the details of the next twat who knocks me over!
Friday 27th:
I had been intending to cycle to Guildford, but Fatters offered to give me a lift, so it seemed rude to refuse. Fat Mike and Sad Simon were already in the pub before Fatters arrived at my gaff, so were well-oiled by the time we arrived. We had a quick drink before heading to The Shahin for a curry with Tall Paul. We then walked into town to go to Flares. Sad Simon wanted to go to the Wetherspoons, but we persuaded him that we wanted a bit of '70s action. I think I'd have preferred a combination of '70s and '80s music, but still had a top night.
I tried to persuade Sad Simon to stay a bit longer, and to walk back, but he wasn't having any of it, so we got a taxi back to his place for some tea and croissant (well, that's what I had, the others had alcohol).
Thanks to Fatters for the lift and everybody for a top night.
Saturday 28th:
After tea and breakfast, Fatters and I headed back to my gaff. He didn't come in for tea because he was already late. I fancied a cycle, so went to Slough Scuba to get the dumps on my drysuit tightened. Obviously I could do that myself, but Gary has a special tool that will tighten the dumps better than I can. I spent the rest of the day gimmering around at home, and watching Click, Casualty, and Mistresses.
