Just as I got to the end of my road, I pulled on the brake lever, and nothing happened. Fortunately, I wasn't going very fast, so I could safely brake using only the front brake. The rear brake cable was loose, looking as if it had snapped somewhere. I continued cycling into work, cycling carefully, knowing that I only had a front brake.
I had wanted to go to Slough Scuba after work, but this would be difficult without the use of my bike, so I popped out during the day, and left my bike at Stows Cycles for a service, and to have the brake cable replaced. It was going to be ready at 5PM, which left me time to get to Slough Scuba afterwards, before it closed. As always, it was a busy day, but I got to Slough Scuba before it closed. I wasn't going to collect anything (two stage cylinders, a twin-set, an argon cylinder, and a dry-suit wouldn't fit on my bike, even with two panniers!), but I wanted to check the servicing, analyse the gas, and pay the bill, ready for Gimmer to collect next week.
I did all this, and then cycled home being very impressed with how powerful both my front and back brakes now were. I'd hoped for a bit of gimmering time before Zoe arrived, but, first things first, I had to have a shave. While I was shaving, Zoe rang. She was outside my house already, and wanted to know where to park. I looked out of the window, and realised that she had to park in the dentists' car park. I told her this, and then told her that I'd put a top on, and let her in!
Despite having had a long day, she was looking as gorgeous as ever. We had a quick drink before going out for a curry. She was hungry, and I wanted to have a few beers before we booked our weekend away, because this was bound to help with the decision-making process! The India was busy, and we had to wait for a table. Even then, we were shown to a table that wasn't my usual table, and the only waiter that I knew was the one that Bird and I don't really like. Despite this, I was still happy. We had a drink while we were waiting, and the food arrived fairly quickly after we sat down. I was pleasantly surprised when it was served by the waiter that Bird and I like.
Apart from the gimmers on the other tables, we had a nice evening. The old boy appeared after a while, and came over to take our money. I mentioned to him that it was really busy, but, as he pointed out, I don't often eat there on a Friday or Saturday.
Back at home, I opened all my bedroom windows, and turned on my PC to search for some last-minute deals. My master plan was to find out where the weather was going to be nice, and book a weekend deal there. Unfortunately, all the last-minute deals seemed to be for 3 nights (Friday, Saturday, & Sunday). As soon as we entered two nights, the price went up a lot. We tried to find a "we don't care where we go" option on LastMinute, EBookers, and Expedia, but none had one. Eventually, we decided to go to Windsor Castle, and Windsor Theatre Royal on Saturday, and Paris on Sunday. It was too late to book theatre tickets, but we booked our Eurostar tickets for Sunday. We eventually went to bed at about half-one.
