Curry With My Brother (2008-04-14)

Category: Diary. Posted: 2008-04-23 00:45:06 BST.

As always after a diving weekend, it took me a while to get out of bed. Still, because I'd dropped the car off last night, at least I didn't have to drive into work. My body always feels strange on the first day after a diving trip. I normally put it down to nitrogen withdrawal symptoms, but I hadn't gone deeper than 20m over the weekend, so doubt it was that. Maybe it was tea and cheesy chips withdrawal symptoms.

Not much particularly exciting happened at work today, but I did find time to call Tasmin and Richard (Kara-C) to organise some diving trips. Both wanted deposits, but Richard wanted a cheque. Gimmeration, what's that all about! I also had to call National Car Rental, because I'd left a CD in the car when I dropped it off yesterday. I won't be using CDs in hire cars when I get my iPod. Talking about which, it's been despatched using Pony Express, and will take up to 11 working days to arrive. The bloke didn't make that clear on his EBay listing.

Yesterday, my brother called asking whether he could stay over night, because he was working in Oxfordshire in the morning. This was OK, and it seemed like a good excuse for a curry. I had planned to wash and dry my dive kit, but didn't have time before he arrived. I did have to wash my dry-suit, because it had leaked again over the weekend, and I needed to take it back to Slough Scuba for the umpteenth time. He arrived on time at about half-seven. Forgetting about the 20% discount before 8PM, I offered him a cuppa, and showed him my America pictures. We then walked up to The India. My brother stopped to get money out of a Cashpoint®, which reminded me that I owed him thirty quid for his winnings in the Grand National sweepstake, so I got some money out of the Hole in the Wall™ next to it.

As usual, the food and service didn't disappoint, although, controversially, my brother was trying not to drink during the week (something I tried a few years ago), so had orange juice and lemonade. Taking away enough for tomorrow evening's dinner, we walked back home. I turned on the TV at about 21:55, ready for the ten o'clock news, but realised that the new series of Waking the Dead had started. Annoyed that I hadn't set the PC to record it, I turned the TV back off, so that I wouldn't ruin the storyline. Time to try the iPlayer again.

After watching the ten o'clock news, my brother felt tired, so called it a night. Just before going to bed, he found the information for his new ADSL contract with Sky. I explained what he'd need to do to set-up his wireless router and e-mail (which I'd set up for him before). I'll have to sort out some dickson-family e-mail servers, so my parents and brother can change ISP without having to mess around changing SMTP servers. Having said that, I could just let them use the robdickson.co.uk e-mail servers, but it's good to have a back-up.
