I eventually got around to looking it up. According to Dictionary.com:
Podiatrist: a person qualified to diagnose and treat foot disorders.
Chiropodist: a podiatrist
According to Foothealth.co.uk, there's no difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist.
So, why did this sign say "Chiropodist & Podiatrist"?

There is no difference, but Podiatrist is the more popular title in the profession now, but if you don't use chiropodist too many people won't know what we do. Explained more here http://www.dhclinic.co.uk

Well, I'd certainly never come across the word before, so I wouldn't have had a clue. Thanks for putting me out of my ignorance.
I like your website, but why does the apostrophe in "Stalybridge's most unique buildings" appear as a strange character?
