Not intending to call an 0845 number, I contacted npower through its website, and asked for a standard (01, 02, or 03) number to call on, or for somebody to call me. I also said that if I had to take a morning off work, I wanted to electricity meter to be checked, and both meters to be read, all during the same morning. I made it clear I wouldn't be taking any more time off work in the next 24 months. Another fairly quiet day at work, but I called Slough Scuba, and Gary said that it would be OK for Gimmer to collect my cylinders, and for me to pay later. I didn't give him jip for leaving a message - that can wait until tomorrow when I go in to pay. To be continued....
[Continued.....] Having left work almost on time, I got home at a reasonable time, although I'm going to have to complain to the Post Office about there not being a next collection tab on the postbox. I can't believe that it ever thought that not using those tags was a good idea. Back at home, I tried to catch up with e-mails that I needed to reply to, but still didn't manage it. Gordy wants me to check out his website, but I haven't got the time to spend more than a few minutes looking at it. Oh well, he'll have to wait.
Gimmer arrived at about half-eight with my cylinders. Top man! I gave him a choice of menus, and he decided on Dominoes Pizza. I called up to place the order, and it was like pulling teeth. The bloke who answered hardly understood a word I said, and I had to repeat everything twice. If the person answering the phone can't understand me (with my "perfect diction"), then what chance does he have with other people? They really should employ somebody with better language skills. A few minutes later, I realised that I hadn't paid by credit card, so called back. He reckoned that I'd never ordered from there before, so he wasn't allowed to take payment by credit card.
I didn't really fancy watching a whole film, so gave Gimmer a choice of Fawlty Towers, Call Girl, or Men Behaving Badly. Understandably, he chose Billy Piper's nipples over the other two options! The pizza guvna had said that it would be 40-45 minutes, but it eventually arrived after at least 50. I went to the door, and the bloke asked for £16.99:
Me: Do you have change of a twenty?
Him: Yes please, if you have the right money, that would be great.
Almost lost for words, I handed him a twenty pound note, and he said, "Is that the smallest you've got?". Gimmeration! Anyway, he gave me three pounds change, and walked off. I called him back, telling him that the change was short. "Three pounds change, because £16.99 equals £17", he replied. I'll be complaining about this, don't you worry!
Anyway, the pizza was good, and we watched the Health Inspectors episode with Basil the Rat. After Gimmer left, I loaded up the dishwasher, and went to bed. Thanks to Gimmer for bringing my cylinders over, and for keeping me company while we perved at Billy Piper's nipples!
