Not much happened at work today, but I do like this cycling into work when it's light. I got a text message during the day - I also like getting text messages, because they're normally from totty. This one, however, was from my brother. It was asking whether I had any plans tonight, and whether he could stay. I had been hoping to stay off the beer this week, but if my brother was staying, I was sure we'd go to The India for a curry. We were running low on milk at work, but I'd forgotten to bring in all my carrier bag recycling, so decided to get some milk tomorrow.
Not knowing what time my brother would be arriving, I left work on time. This has the added advantage of cycling home when it's light as well. I only had one letter to post, so tried posting it without stopping, but almost got my hand caught in the postbox. I don't think I'll be doing that again! At home, I was disappointed to see that there was no letter from Sarah. Oh well, hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow. There was a card from npower, saying that somebody had called to carry out a safety check on my gas meter, and that he/she would call back on Friday morning. The card gave an 0845 number that I can call to make an alternative appointment. If they think I'm calling an 0845 number, they've got another thing coming. Anyway, the last time somebody checked my meter, he just stuck his head round the door, said, "can you smell gas", and then left!
There was no need to cook, but I still had some things that I hadn't washed up from my cooking over the last few days, so I made my sarnies for the next day, and loaded up the dishwasher. Having used it 4 days in a row, I was beginning to run low on dishwasher tablets. My brother called, and said he should be arriving at about nine o'clock, after having gone home first. He was up for a curry, so it was a good job that I hadn't eaten when I got home.
Unfortunately, there was lots of traffic on the M25, and the northbound Blackwall Tunnel was closed, so he called a bit later, to say that he wouldn't be making it. Talking about phone calls, I called Scary back, but he was in Holland, so we didn't talk for long - I didn't want to be costing him money on his phone bill. I can't remember what else I got up to in the evening, but I don't remember it involving an early night. I got my weekly e-mail of crime from Thames Valley Police, and Scary and I didn't feature in it. What a cheek! Also, I read the leaflet that Scary got from the police last Wednesday, and it said "If the offender is identified and is under 18 years of age, you may be contacted by the Youth Offending Team about participating in a restorative process.". Not a chance, I don't mind participating in a "clip round the ear" scheme, but I don't think that a "restorative process" scheme is something I'm interested in.
