Hoovers, Onions, and Fish (2008-02-07)

Category: Diary. Posted: 2008-02-16 15:14:31 GMT.

I'm writing this on a flight from Amsterdam to Atyrau. I can't really remember what I did at work during the day, but I know that I didn't call the Kazakhstan Embassy, because somebody had called me back (after I'd left about half-a-dozen messages) yesterday, and assured me that my passport would be sent today, so should arrive tomorrow. I checked the Royal Mail website, but it wasn't going to have a record of it being posted until late in the evening. I forgot to take the Special Delivery number home with me, so couldn't check.

At home, I ate my dinner while watching something that I'd recorded recently (Casualty, I think), and then decided that I really needed to vacuum up all the cardboard that was on the carpet after I'd taken the big box apart on Tuesday. I got a bit carried away, because I decided that I ought to move the sofa, and clean under there as well. It's a really heavy sofa, which made me realise why I rarely move it! The vacuum cleaner that Fiona gave me when we cleared out her house in Basingstoke about ten years ago just isn't up to keeping the dust off the carpet. I'm going to have to buy a Dyson when Nicky has checked out the reviews in Which. I even moved the chests of drawers and cupboards to clean underneath and behind them. The only thing I didn't clean behind was the server, because I didn't want to shut it down. I was going to do some work on the electrics on Saturday, so was going to have to shut it down then anyway.

I then realised that I hadn't done anything with the onions and fish that I'd had delivered on Monday. Before it was too late to use a blender, I made some onion purée (which is what I should have made last week), and chopped up the fish before freezing it. After all this, it definitely was time for bed.
