Torchwood and Electrical Wiring (2008-01-23)

Category: Diary. Posted: 2008-01-28 23:50:20 GMT.

Before leaving for work, I took the margarine tub out of the freezer, and put it into the cold fridge. I really ought to buy a thermometer, so I know how cold my fridge is. When I went into the back office at work to send a fax, I noticed some liquid all over the floor. There was nowhere in our office where it could have come from, so it must have come from next door. I popped next door, and found out that they'd had a leak of oil. I have no idea how it got through the walls between our two offices, but at least I knew where the liquid had come from.

Back at home, I found that the olive oil was at the perfect consistency. Unfortunately, it didn't taste like olive oil spread. Unsurprisingly, it just tasted of olive oil. When I looked at the ingredients of olive oil spread, it's only about 20% olive oil, and about 80% normal vegetable spread. Gimmeration! I wanted to clear the kitchen of my tools, so I was going to sort out the electrics this evening. I was pleased to find out that last week's Torchwood was repeated tonight. Unfortunately, this meant that I could only turn the electricity off between 19:50 and 21:00. At 19:50, I shut-down both my PCs, and then turned off the electricity. It didn't take me long to do what I needed to do in the kitchen (thanks to Mr. Elley for reminding me what colour is live, and what colour is neutral!), and managed to turn the power on in good time to record this week's episode of Torchwood as well. Just as I turned the electricity back on, I realised that I'd forgotten to shut-down the server, as well as the two PCs. I'm really going to have to invest in a UPS. Fortunately, the server didn't seem to have developed any problems from not being shut-down properly.

I spent the rest of the evening starting to sort out my finances. I hadn't really looked at my finances since before Christmas, so there was quite a lot to catch up with. I also had quite a lot of e-mails that needed replying to, so replied to them as well.
