I got woken up by noises in the loft. Gimmeration, the squirrels had got back in again. Knowing my chances of getting back to sleep were slim, I went straight downstairs, and continued sleeping on the sofa. This had the advantage of being even closer to the kitchen, so I could smell the fresh bread even better when I woke up. Unfortunately, I went straight back to sleep, and didn't wake up again until 8 o'clock (later than I normally arrive at work). Ooops. Not only that, but I had to check the trap in the loft before I left for work. The trap had been moved, but hadn't caught anything. I then had to put on all my wet-weather gear, but I didn't bother with the over-shoes, because it didn't look at wet. About half-way there, my socks started feeling a bit moist (what a brilliant word!), so I regretted not wearing the over-shoes. I should have known better.
I arrived a bit late at about 08:40. I didn't like the idea of turning up late when my boss isn't there. It makes it look as if I turned up late just because he wasn't there. After finishing my first cuppa, the first thing I did was to clean the kitchen. OK, it was only going to be clean for one day, but it was still worth it. I then had quite a bit of box-packing to do, so didn't bother getting changed out of my jeans. Let's face it, the only person I was going to see was Postie, so I didn't really need to wear a suit.
I can't remember what I got up to at the start of the evening, but, after watching the 10 o'clock news, I decided to try getting the BBC IPlayer to work. I'd first downloaded it when the beta trial first started, but experienced a problem with DRM that other beta testers also experienced. I gave up, but, since it's now been released properly, I thought I'd give it a go. After messing around with Windows Media Player, and installing the latest version of IPlayer, it seemed to work OK. I watched last Saturday's Casualty, and an episode of Porridge. My PC crashed about five minutes into Casualty, but, considering all the messing around with rolling back to an old version of WMP, and then installing the latest version again, it's not that surprising that I had problems. I got a bit carried away downloading other programmes, and left my PC downloading 6 programmes over night. The download speed wasn't brilliant, but it was bound to finish by the morning.
