Buses from Heathrow to Slough (2008-01-03)

Category: Useful Information. Posted: 2008-01-03 21:48:50 GMT. Updated: 2008-01-04 20:18:23 GMT.

If you don't have a bike, then an easy way to get from Heathrow to Slough is using buses. Most people will probably use the local First Beeline bus services, which leave from the Central Bus Station. However, in my experience, these services (numbers 75, 76, and 77) are unreliable and expensive, but they do have the advantage of taking people directly to Slough without having to change.

If I don't have my bike at Heathrow, the way that I prefer to travel from Heathrow to Slough is to use any bus to take me out to the A4 (buses are free within the Heathrow area, so you don't have to pay for this). As soon as the bus is on the A4, I get off at the next stop, and wait for the more reliable, and cheaper, 81 service, which travels to Slough via Colnbrook and Langley.

According to the bus-shelters around Heathrow, the buses that run out of Heathrow towards the A4 are:
Tfl buses: 105, 111, 140, 285, and U3.
Beeline buses: 75, 76, and 77.

Routes 75, 76, 77, and U3 run westbound on the A4, so you will get off these services at the correct stop to catch the westbound 81 service. However, routes 105, 111, 140, and 285 run eastbound, so you will either need to get off the bus just before it gets to the A4, or cross the A4 if you get off after the bus has got to the A4. See the TfL website for more details about Buses from Heathrow Airport North (PDF file).

You'll see that I have the drawing ability of a 2-year-old, but hopefully they give you a feel for how to find your way around.

These four pictures might also be of use. The first two show buses that run out of Heathrow, the third one shows a TfL map of buses around Heathrow, and the fourth shows the routes around Heathrow. The third and fourth pictures can be seen on the PDF file above.

Update: Added pictures, and improved drawings.
