Sarah had mentioned before that she was spending too much money going out in London, so didn't want to eat out every time we met up. Being a tight-wad, I didn't argue with that idea. She had spent some time researching some things to do, and then e-mailed the plan to me. Unfortunately, I actually have to work during the day, so didn't check my e-mails. Fortunately, she called me later, to tell me what the plan was.
She said to meet at Russell Square station at 18:30. I locked my bike up outside the station, bought my ticket, and caught the 17:41. Unlike all other times that I've caught what is now called the Hopewell Express, I actually got a seat. With no delays, I arrived at Russell Square just after half-six. There were quite a few people getting into the lift, so, ignoring the sign that said "For safety reasons, please do not use the stairs", I climbed the 175 steps to ground level. About half-way up, I decided that it was a silly idea, but it was too late. Still, it wasn't as difficult as all the stairs in the Empire State Building, now that is hard work.
I arrived at the top, to see some very sexy totty wearing a sexy summer dress, but no Sarah. While I was waiting for Sarah, some more totty walked past, with a T-shirt that simply said, "Yes, they are!". Sarah turned up soon after, carrying her helmet, and a saddle. We're going to have to buy her a saddle that she can lock onto her bike. Some gimmer tried to nick mine about a fortnight ago, but didn't manage it, because it was locked on. Anyway, Sarah was looking as gorgeous as ever, and she had some little chocolate cakes with her. I hadn't eaten since about 11AM, so they were welcome. She'd also bought me two cycle-related presents. She'd bought me a loud horn (the Megahorn - hee-hee), and a mirror. The horn would have been useful on National Get in Dickson's Way, but I wasn't totally convinced about the mirror, until I realised its perving potential. An excellent addition to the Megahorn!
The British Museum is open until 20:30 on a Thursday, and it's free to go in. OK, there were signs everywhere suggesting a donation, but it was free. There were also tables where people are allowed to sit, and eat their own food. Seems like a good free plan to me. We wondered around the Egyptian and Indian rooms, but the Korean and Muslim ones were closed. We were both feeling tired, so stopped twice to sit down, and have more chocolate cake.
When we'd had enough of being inside, we found Sarah's bike, and went off to a place where we could sit down, eat dinner, and have a hot chocolate. We had to buy the hot chocolate, but I could cope with that. As well as chocolate cakes, Sarah had made some noodles. Top lass! It turned out that the place that she had in mind was a shopping centre, not, as I had assumed, a park. Still, it was quite nice. Once we'd finished the noodles, we went into the giraffe cafe for some hot chocolate (Sarah's treat, since I'd got the Chinese take-away on Saturday). I suddenly realised that not only was I having a hot chocolate for the first time in 20 years, but this was the first night out I'd had without drinking in about 20 years, and the longest I'd been awake for without caffeine or alcohol for ages!
Come ten o'clock, we were both really tired, so called it a night. We were only a few minutes away from Russell Square, so I managed to find it on my own. As I got on the train from King's Cross to Paddington, there was some nice totty in a naughty skool-girl costume. Upon closer perving, I realised that she actually was a school girl, so stopped! Ooops! By the time I got to Paddington, I wasn't tired at all, but, by the time I'd cycled home from Slough, I was tired, so went straight to bed.
